Management

The National Park Board and the National Park Manager are the administrative authorities for Jomfruland National Park.

There is a separate board for the national park. The board's task is to manage the area in accordance with international obligations, the Nature Diversity Act and the conservation regulations. The landowners on Jomfruland and Stråholmen have two representatives on the board.

Management

The National Park Board

The National Park Board has two representatives from Kragerø Municipality, one from Vestfold and Telemark County Council, and two landowner representatives - one from each of the islands Jomfruland and Stråholmen. Representatives from Kragerø Municipality and landowner representatives are proposed by Kragerø Municipality. The representative from Vestfold and Telemark County Council is proposed by the county council/county committee.

The Norwegian Environment Agency determines the composition of the board. The board is responsible for:
- Exercising authority in accordance with the protection rules laid down in the protection regulations.
- Preparing a proposal for a management plan with a visitor strategy. The plan is approved by the Norwegian Environment Agency.
- Management to preserve and develop the conservation values.
- Facilitate outdoor recreation so that the national park can be experienced and used without risking damage to the conservation values.
- Necessary knowledge gathering about the conservation values.
- Monitoring of the conservation values as a basis for assessing whether the conservation goals are being achieved.
- Maintain necessary contact with landowners, licensees, users, teams and organizations.
- Ensure that all significant violations of the rules in the conservation regulations that the board becomes aware of are reported to the police.
- Report on management to the Norwegian Environment Agency.

The board may delegate authority to decide on matters to the national park manager. Matters pursuant to section 11 of the protection regulations cannot be delegated.

Management plan and conservation plans

A separate management plan with a visitor strategy has been prepared for Jomfruland National Park. The plan was approved in 2019 and serves as a steering document for the management. Separate conservation plans have also been drawn up for defined areas and habitats in the national park.
